  • Joan DeSailles Talbot, a longtime resident of Burlingame, passed away on Nov. 14.  Joan was born in Carthage, Mo., on July 28, 1929.
She moved to San Francisco in 1941 with her parents, Dr. Maxwell and Clarabelle Harris, where she attended middle school at St. Brigid. Joan and her parents moved to Burlingame in 1943 and she graduated from Burlingame High School in 1947.
In addition to getting excellent grades, Joan enjoyed staying active playing field hockey and riding her bicycle through the neighborhood. She attended Stanford University, where she met her late husband, Dr. Donald Talbot.
She later returned to Stanford University to earn a masters degree and teaching credential.  Joan worked many years at Hillsdale High School in the math department as a teaching assistant, and also at Mills and San Mateo High Schools, as a substitute teacher.
She loved working with students. Joan was definitely a people person and especially liked visiting with family and friends, reading interesting literature, and cooking wonderful family meals, while sharing some wine.  She was always up for a quick escape to Burlingame Avenue or an extended trip to Carmel, where she enjoyed many family vacations.  She also had happy memories of her two visits to Hawaii, with her daughter Susan.  Despite the obstacles life presented her, Joan never lost her strong will and sense of humor.
Joan is the widow of the late Dr. Donald Talbot.
She is survived by her four children, whom she always claimed were her greatest achievements: Richard Talbot (Colleen) of Seattle, Catherine Charles (Thomas) of Santa Rosa, Robert Talbot (Patricia) of Pescadero, and Susan Tudoni (David) of Burlingame.  She is also survived by her 7 grandchildren: Jennifer Charles, Lauren Charles, Kristin Gucwa (Robert), Kyle Talbot, Kassandra Talbot (Eric), Chloe Talbot (Chole), and Maxwell Talbot; step grandchildren:  Brandon Tudoni (Rita), Nicholas Tudoni, and step great grandchild Isabella.
A rosary will be held on Monday, Nov. 26 at 7p.m. at Crosby N Gray in Burlingame, followed by a memorial service at Our Lady of Angels in Burlingame on Tuesday, Nov. 27 at 10:30 a.m.
