William Edgar “Ed” Cass Jr., 90, Carthage, passed away Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital, Carthage.
William E. Cass was born Aug. 18, 1922 in Artesia, New Mexico; the son of William E. Cass, Sr. and Eunice Mayes Cass.
He attended public schools in Wink, Texas and was a 1940 graduate of Wink High School. He was a WWII veteran serving in the U.S. Army Air Corp, serving as a test pilot. He married Alice Walker on March 16, 1947; they owned and operated Plains Camera & Jewelry and University Camera and Jewelry in Lubbock, TX. He and his wife moved to Carthage in 2008. He was a member of the Apostolic Faith Church, Prosperity, Mo.
Survivors include his wife, Alice, Carthage; three daughters, Kay Cass (Wayne) Wheeler, Carthage, Linda Cass Choate, Burleson, Texas, and Marty Cass Walker, Austin, Texas; two sons, David Donald (Janice) Cass, Belleville, Texas, and Jerry Dean (Barbara) Cass, Buda, Texas; one brother, Lewis William (Ruby) Cass, Crane, Texas; nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters and one son, Stephen Cass.
Visitation will be held from 6–7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21 at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23 in the Knell Mortuary Chapel, Carthage.
Rev. Brian Harris and Steve Stockton will officiate. Interment will be in the Veterans Cemetery, Springfield, Mo., on Monday, Nov. 26. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Apostolic Church, Prosperity, Mo. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo.
