  • Kenneth L. Potter, age 99 of Jasper, Mo., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 13, 2012 at Truman Healthcare Lamar, Mo.
    Kenneth was born on Feb. 18, 1913 on the family farm six miles northwest of Carthage, Mo., to Frank and Amanda (Hoover) Potter.
    Kenneth worked at Peerless Machine in Joplin, MO. 1937-1940, Puget Sound Navy Yard 1940-1947, Ebbett's Machine Shop in Moses Lake, Washington 1947-1951, Westinghouse Jet Engine Division in Kansas City 1951-1961. He owned and operated Launderette in Grandview, Mo., 1961-1971 and owned and operated Modern Mechanistics in Jasper, Mo., 1971 until 2009. He graduated from Carthage High School in 1932. Kenneth was a member of the Jasper United Methodist Church and a fifty year member of Jasper Masonic lodge #398.
    Kenneth had a lifelong love for flying. He received his pilot's license at the age of 28. Kenneth built his own ultralight plane in his shop in Jasper and took his last flight at the age of 93.
    Kenneth was united in marriage to Lavon Dukes on Sept. 1, 1951 in Kansas City, Mo. She preceded him in death on Oct. 10, 2008.
    Survivors include, one daughter, Frances Potter Hatzfeld and husband Robert of Greenwood, Miss., three granddaughters, Nancy Hatzfeld Floyd and husband Martin of Waco, Texas, Robin Hatzfeld McCormick and husband Amos of Clinton, Miss., and Kerri Hatzfeld Smith and husband James of Ridgeland, Miss., four great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.
    He was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers, Everett Potter and Leroy Potter, one sister, Elsie Potter and one great-granddaughter, Amy McCormick.
    Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 at Weng Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends on Monday, Nov. 19, 2012 from 1-2 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage, MO.. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Weng Funeral Chapel, Jasper, Mo.
