  • A new “Green Leaf” sprouted in Carthage this spring.
Born and raised Carthaginian, Tug Baker, started his own business, Green Leaf Lawn Services, LLC., in late May 2012. His services include mowing, trimming, edging, hedge trimming, leaf removal, gutter cleaning and Christmas lighting, for both residential and commercial locations.
“More than anything it's something I enjoy,” Baker said. “Not everybody gets the chance to do what they love.”
Baker graduated with the Carthage High School Class of 1999, and worked at the Carthage Municipal Golf Course for a total of eight years, four in the pro shop and four on the course maintenance crew. He worked seven years for Sam's Club in Joplin, six of those years were spent as a supervisor.
“I learned from my leadership role at Sam's that it's all about how you treat people,” Baker said. “It's the Golden Rule – you treat others how you would want to be treated.”
Baker provides 10 percent discounts to residents over 60, and members if the Carthage Men's Golf Association as well. Consultation and estimates are free. He says his referral program is a win-win for clients and his small business.
“That's helping them help me,” he said. “I have clients now that are excited and looking forward to spring to take advantage of the referral business.”
With the holiday season approaching, Baker says one of his services will be appealing to potential clients. He will supply the labor and clips for outdoor Christmas lighting, and encourages residents to keep in mind that lawn and home care is a year-round chore. Baker said his attention to detail is definably one aspect that makes his service a quality service.
