Leland E. “Curly” Jackson, 85, of Carthage passed away at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012 at Mercy McCune-Brooks Hospital in Carthage.
Leland was born Oct. 21, 1927 in Parma, Mo., he was the son of Charles A. Jackson and Lela May “Harris” Jackson. He had lived in Carthage for over 50 years. Leland worked for Carthage Marble for 20 years, then retired from Leggett and Platt where he had worked from Aug. 24, 1970 to Jan. 2, 1996. He was a member of Elm Road Church of Christ. Leland loved to hunt and fish.
Leland was united in marriage to Lura Gleghorn on July 13, 1946 in Piggott, Ark. She preceded him in death on June 15, 2010.
Survivors include three sons, Michael Jackson and wife Sharon of Valparaso, IN, Doug Jackson and wife Teresa of Carthage and Kevin Jackson and wife Beckie of Neck City, Mo., six daughters Charlotte Bricker and husband Bob of Carthage, Lura Gordon and husband Jerry of Jasper, Marcia Pliler of Carthage, Connie Thompson and husband Robbie of Carthage, Debra Oplotnik and husband Brian of Joplin and Karen Chambell and husband Terry of Carthage, one sister- Millie Elsworth of Nevada, MO, 19 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Leland was preceded in death by one daughter, Lindell Jackson on January 21, 2011, 8 brothers and sisters, one granddaughter and one grandson.
Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012 at the Ulmer Funeral Home Chapel.
