Robert Engle “Bill” Etcheson son of Leroy and Mary Etcheson was born on April 27, 1922 near Webb City, Mo.
He departed this life Oct. 26, 2012 at Truman Healthcare, Lamar Mo., at the age of 90. He lived all of his life in the Barton County area.
Bill was united in marriage to Marjorie Kirby on May 29, 1952 in Huntsville, Ark. She preceded him in death on Dec. 25, 2001, just five months short of 50 years of marriage.
Bill proudly served his country during World War II from November 1942 through March 1946. He was a corporal in General Patton’s 3rd Army attached to the 11th Armored Division. He received two bronze stars while serving his country along with numerous medals and ribbons. Upon returning from war, Bill farmed, raised cattle and worked on a water line. He operated a bulldozer building many ponds, waterways and terraces in the southwest Missouri area.
He was a life-time member of the Jasper MO VFW Post 6415, and a member of the First Christian Church, Lamar Mo. Bill loved the Lord and witnessed to as many as would listen to him. Toward the end of his life he told family members if he didn’t see us here he would see us in heaven.

He is survived by three daughters: Susan and Dan Cunningham Lexington, Neb., Betsy and Sam Braker Jasper, Mo., Deana and Terry Cook, Jasper, Mo.; two step-daughters: Peggy and Don Helms Liberal, Mo., Mary Jo and John Dunlap, Oronogo, Mo.; six grandchildren: Heath Cunningham, Heather (Willie) Neher, Brandon Braker, Joshua (Angie) Cook, Matthew Cook, and Aaron Cook; two great-granddaughters: Lily Belle Cook, Lamar, Mo., and Amiah Rosalee Neher, Lamar, Mo.; 10 step-grandchildren: Cindy Mueller, Barry (Pam) Green, Christal (Mike) VanDorn, Amy (Kris) Mengarelli, Mike Ball, Danny Ball, Julie (Eric) Jones, Becky (Judd) Payne, Justin ( Andrea) Braker and Amanda (Danny) Sheldon; two brothers: LA Etcheson, Jasper, Mo., and Sam Etcheson, Alba, Mo; two sisters: Martha Condon, Lamar, Mo., and Lois Baird, Jasper, Mo.; and several step-great-grandchildren and a number of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by a brother Virgil Etcheson and Viola Wardlow.
Bill was an exceptional Husband, Dad, Papa and friend. He had a wonderful sense of humor and will be dearly missed.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Monday, Oct. 29, 2012 at Weng Funeral Chapel. The family will receive friends on Sunday, Oct. 28, 2012 from 6-8 p.m. at Weng Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Nashville Cemetery.
