Helen (Sherrill) Long, 88, of Carthage passed away at 8:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2012 at National Health Care in Joplin.
Helen was born Feb. 7, 1924 in Carthage and had been a life-time resident of Carthage. She was the daughter of Edward Clellen Sherrill and Hazel Adda (Morris) Sherrill. Helen was a Certified Nurses Aid at Carthage Health and Rehab and the former Fair Acres Nursing Home of Carthage. She had also worked for Big Smith Manufacturing. Helen was a member of T.O.P.S. of Carthage, Golden Reflections at Mercy McCune Brooks Hospital, the Sunday Night Supper Group and the First Church of Nazarene in Carthage where she had been a member for 44 years.
Helen was united in marriage to Roy Clifford Long in April 1943. He preceded her in death on Feb. 22, 1986.
Survivors include two daughters, Mary Simmons and husband Don of Aurora, CO and Judy Heathman and husband Jerry of Nevada, Mo., two sisters, Ileene Sherrill of Carthage and Rouan Southard of Joplin, four grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and one great great grand daughter. Helen was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris Sherrill, Royce Sherrill and Ed Sherrill, one sister, Ruth Sherrill and a grandson.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 19, 2012 at First Church of Nazarene. Visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will be in Park Cemetery. Online condolences may be sent at www.ulmerfh.com. Arrangements are under the direction of the Ulmer Funeral Home.
