Carolene I. Kelly, 90, died peacefully at her home of seven years at St. Luke’s Assisted Living Care Center, Carthage, Mo., early Friday morning , Oct. 5, 2012.
She was born in Fairview, Mo. on Jan. 17, 1922 to Donald W. Raulsten and Eva “Mae” (Freeman) Raulsten. Carolene married Robert K. Kelly, December 9, 1939 in Wheaton, Mo. and moved to Carthage in 1941. They had three children, Marsha K. (William) Connor, Marcellus, N.Y., Jenny P. Mansfield, Carthage and Michael K. (Denise) Kelly, Springfield, Mo.
Besides her children, survivors include her sister, Mary Culp, Lafayette, La., sister-in-laws, Helen Holliday, Carthage, Ann Kelly, Duenweg, Jean Kelly, Monett and Lavonne Raulsten, Webb City; nine grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, R.K. Kelly; brother, J.W.Raulston; grandson, Lt. Patrick K. Connor; son-in-law, Richard T. Mansfield and brother-in-laws, Morris Kelly, Wilford Kelly, Bill Kelly and J.W. Holliday.
Carolene was the perfect housewife, mother and grandmother; most famous for her cooking, praying, rocking our babies, reading and working crossword puzzles. She was active in PTA, Ladies Missionary Council at First Assembly of God Church and later involved with activities at St. Luke’s.
A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 10 at the Knell Mortuary Chapel, Carthage, followed by interment in Park Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9 at the Knell Mortuary.
