Many art opportunities will be existing during the month of October, and one of those will be the new exhibition here at Hyde House entitled “PEINTURE ADVENTURE” by the “Day Trippers”, Plein Air Painters of Southwest Missouri.
This group of more than 10 artists will be showing recent paintings done entirely in an outdoor setting, which allows for not only a quick “snap shot” of their subjects during that moment in time, but a more spontaneous painting that sometimes reflects a style that the artist would not normally demonstrate in a studio painting.
In any case, these paintings are completed quickly and usually contain a lot of energy!
This group of area artists was established a couple of years ago as a fellowship of artists dedicated to promoting and practicing the traditional discipline of plein air painting, (or painting outdoors from life).
Members seek to encourage each other to interpret the natural beauty and diversity of the four state area’s landscapes and culture. They had been gathering casually together occasionally to paint in the outdoors and decided to form this group, “Day Trippers of Southwest Missouri.”
Members include at this time, Crystal Manning of Carl Junction, Becky Golubski of Pierce City, Margie Moss, Darlene Bates and Debbie Reed of Joplin, Helen Kunze, Jim Bilgere, Tom Jones and Janice Kinman of Carthage, Adele Thompson, and possibly others by show time.
This exhibition will be underwritten by the Ruth Kolpin Foundation and will open Friday, Oct. 12 at 6 p.m. with the artists’ reception. The work will remain hanging through the end of the month, closing Oct. 28, and during this time the gallery will also play host to both the Plein Air Painters Workshop led by professional artists Jason Sacran and John Lasater, both of Arkansas, as well as the plein air Painters Paint Out, both occurring during the week leading up to the Maple Leaf Parade weekend.
I hope many of you reading this will be interested in participating or attending one of these wonderful art opportunities! And too, if you have not been by artCentral and Hyde House to view the work of Alice Lynn Greenwood in her current exhibition “THE ART OF TEXTING” you will want to do so this weekend. We are open, Saturday from noon to 5 p.m., and Sunday 1-5 p.m. This current exhibition is underwritten jointly by our friends at Otts Food Products and SMB and artCentral thanks them once more for this courtesy. Hope to see you this our last weekend of the current show!
Sally Armstrong is the director for artCentral at Hyde House.
