Carthage police arrested a man and a woman on Friday in the Aug. 29 armed robbery of a Carthage liquor store.
Carthage Police Capt. Randee Kaiser said Jered Vera, 23, and Nakota Ortner, 24, Jasper, were arrested on Friday at a home at 1023 Sophia in Carthage after a nearly three-week investigation into the robbery at TC’s Liquor Store, 321 E. Airport Dr.
Both were charged on Monday with first-degree robbery and were being held on $25,000 bond. Both were required initially to post a $2,500 cash bond in addition to the $25,000 surity bond, but Jasper County Associate Circuit Court Judge Richard D. Copeland removed the cash bond requirement for Ortner in a hearing on Monday.
Jasper County on-line court records show that Ortner is scheduled to be arraigned on her charge at 9:05 a.m. Sept. 27 before Copeland.
No arraignment date had been set for Vera as of late Monday.
Police Chief Greg Dagnan said police believe Vera is the reported male who entered the store wearing a black hoodie, black and white bandana over his face, black pants and white shoes. The police report said the suspect left on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and the clerk was not injured.
Dagnan said police believe Vera left on foot and got into a vehicle, driven by Ortner, to escape.
Police went to Jasper to follow up on leads on Thursday before tracking the couple down at the home at 1023 Sophia at 11:30 a.m. Friday.
The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office and the Missouri State Highway Patrol assisted with the investigation.
Dagnan said the stolen cash was not recovered.
