A community worship service and flag retirement ceremony by the local VFW will kick off Jasper Days 2012.
The community worship service is slated for 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Jasper City Park pavilion with the flag retirement ceremony to be held immediately after the service.
In case of rain, which is not in the forecast until a chance of thunderstorms Thursday night and Friday, these events will be held at the Jasper Christian Church.
Other events will be held Thursday and Friday leading up to the big parade and fair downtown and in the Jasper City Park on Saturday.
On Thursday, slated for the Park, the Tiny Tots coronation will be held at 6:30 p.m., followed by the Jasper Queen crowning at 7:30 p.m.
A window display contest will be held Friday with ribbons given out for first, second and third place.
The big day is Saturday, with 20 events scheduled, including the big Jasper Days Grand Parade, slated to begin at 3 p.m. on Saturday on Grand Avenue downtown.
Participants will line up at 2 p.m. at the Jasper Schools parking lot at Mercer Street (County Route K) and Park Place and march south on Park Place to Grand Avenue.
Saturday's events start with a breakfast starting at 6:30 a.m. at the VFW Hall, 106 W. Grand Ave.
A 5K/Mile fun run is also slated for Saturday morning. No entries for this event, which starts at the Jasper Fire Department on the U.S. 71 outer road east of town, will be taken after 7:15 p.m.

Other events taking place on Saturday at Jasper Days include a UMC Quilt show from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Methodist Church, 122 N. First St., Couples Wagon Races, slated for 6 p.m. at Jasper City Park; a baby show at 9 a.m. At the Jasper United Methodist Church (Registration is at 8:30 a.m.), an art and photography show at 9 a.m. At the First Christian Church, 231 E. Grand Ave., a tractor show, a kids pedal tractor pull, barbecue in the park and a number of other events.
