The Maple Leaf committee selected Carolyn and Pat Phelps as the 2012 Maple Leaf Grand Marshals.
The nomination states, “Carolyn and Pat have been strong supporters of numerous civic groups and private projects for many years in Carthage. Each has served on numerous boards. Pat and Carolyn have supported countless worthy projects over the years without a thought to personal recognition. These two have worked as a team to support this community for many years because they are connected to Carthage through generations ahead of them and they want this city to continue to be a great place to live for generations to come.” Mr. and Mrs. Phelps will serve as a judge at the 3 Minutes of Fame Lip Sync Competition, attend many of the festival events and ride in the parade.
The 46th Annual Maple Leaf Festival will begin Friday, October 12th and 13th with the Historic Downtown Art Walk and Maple Leaf 5K and 10K and Family Walk, and conclude Sunday, October 21st with the Maple Leaf CASI sanctioned Chili Fest and all new Maple Leaf K-9 Leap & Dash. The Maple Leaf Parade will be Saturday, October 20th, beginning its route on the historic downtown Square. Food, craft booths and live entertainment on the Square, the Maple Market at 6th and Main, and Willie Arthur Smith’s Marching Cobras performing in the auditorium will provide a variety of activity for this year’s attendees. In addition to the activities downtown on the day of the parade, the week holds plenty of other events located throughout Carthage including pageants, a car show, lighting contest, adult beverage tastings, gospel sing, quilt show and dog show.
For a full schedule of events, Maple Leaf Festival brochures are available at the Chamber, 402 S Garrison and at sponsor locations throughout Carthage in both English and Spanish.
