Betty L. Tiller, 84, Carthage, passed away Monday, Aug. 20, 2012 with her husband of 68 years and her family at her side.
Betty Louise Danner was born June 25, 1928 in Carthage; the daughter of the late O.J. “Red” Danner and Ida Gordon Danner. She attended Carthage Public Schools and married Emerald “Pete” Tiller on August 20, 1944 in Pittsburg, Kansas. Betty worked as a switchboard operator for United Missouri Bank, Carthage and was a bookkeeper for Jasper Lumber and Supply, Jasper, Mo. and Tiller Construction. She was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene, where she sang in the church choir and was involved in the women’s and children’s ministries. She was active with her children in their school PTAs.
Survivors include her husband, Pete, Carthage; three daughters, Bonnie (George) Earl, Carthage, Janet (Tim) Atnip, Jasper and Debbie (Steve) Hensley, Carthage; two brothers, David Danner and Mike Danner, Carthage; six grandchildren, Hallie (Paul) Young, Spring Hill, KS, Jeremy (Jaime) Atnip, Jasper, Brad Atnip, Jasper, Adam (Allison) Atnip, Jasper,Dustin (Amanda) Hensley, Carthage and Amanda (Brad) Fosdick, Carthage; eight great grandchildren, Kylen and Dalton Young, Larissa, Hadley, Garrett, Addison and Clayton Atnip and Baylor Hensley; her devoted caregiver, Leslie Kincaid. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Lois Hurt and three brothers, Howard, J.C. and Harold Danner.
Visitation will be held from 6–7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 23 at the Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24 at the Grand Avenue Church of God, Carthage. Pastor Chuck Davis and Pastor Dan Adams will officiate. Interment will be in Hackney Cemetery, northeast of Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the Grand Avenue Church of God, Carthage.
