Delana Long, 88, Reeds, Mo., passed away Sunday, Aug. 19, 2012 at Freeman Hospital West, Joplin, Mo., following an extended illness.
Delana was born Oct. 22, 1923 in Ava, Mo. to the late Joe and Ethel (Adams) Pippen. She married Earl Long on April 11, 1942 in Carthage, Mo. Four children were born to this union. Earl preceded her in death on April 22, 2011.
Delana greatly enjoyed being outdoors, especially when fishing or tending to her garden. She was also an accomplished seamstress and sewed many quilts in her life. She was converted and baptized at a young age and was of the Baptist faith.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister and by three brothers.
She is survived by her children, Linda Irene Sloniker, Reeds, Mo., Garry Steven Long (Marilyn), the State of Texas, Michael Allen Long (Barbara) Sarcoxie, Mo., and Harold Dwayne Long (Carolyn), Sarcoxie, Mo.; one sister, Beulah Williams, Joplin, Mo.; one brother, Dorse Pippen (Doris), Carthage, Mo.; 12 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; 13 step-great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends who will miss her very much.
Visitation will be 6 – 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2012 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo. Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 22, 2012 at Knell Mortuary.
