Gladys C. Hicks, 85, formerly of Carthage, Mo., passed away Thursday, July 26, 2012 at the Rex Nursing Center of Apex, N.C., following a five-year battle with cancer.
Gladys was born Dec. 9, 1926 in Topeka, Kan. to the late George and Marguerite (Servos) Nicolay. She grew up in California and was “Rosie the Riveter” as she worked in an aircraft factory during World War II. She was married to Marion Scott Hicks. She and Marion moved to a farm near Carthage, Mo. in 1954.
Gladys loved the outdoors, especially when she was at the beach, and tending to her gardens. Living on the farm was the happiest time of her life. She was very artistic. She took art classes at MSSC and enjoyed ceramics and art crafts. Gladys also loved to dance. She dearly loved her family and friends, and she kept a positive and cheerful attitude about her illness.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marion Scott Hicks, Sr.; a son, Marion Scott Hicks, Jr.; and by one grandson, Derek Cline.
She is survived by five children, Mike Cline and David Keller Cline, both of the State of California, Linda McCrea of Dallas, Texas, Jim Hicks of Missouri, and Nancy Signore of Cary, N.C.; five grandchildren, Dusty, Misty, Jason, Hayden, and Emily; seven great-grandchildren, Gabby, Natalie, Olivia, Grant, Christian, Victoria, and Jaxon.
Visitation will be 1 p.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 at Knell Mortuary. Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, 2012 graveside in Fullerton Cemetery, under direction of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo.
