Velma L. Bowman, 92, Springfield, formerly of Carthage, Mo., passed away Tuesday, July 24, 2012 at the Culpepper Residential Care Home, Springfield, Mo.
Velma L. Nunns was born May 18, 1920 in Carthage; the daughter of the late Elbert Nunns and Ruby Jarvis Nunns. She married Kenneth C. Bowman on July 26, 1941 in Carthage; he preceded her in death on Nov. 4, 1981. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Carthage, the Dependable Sunday School Class, the Carthage Extension Club, McCune-Brooks Hospital Auxiliary and the American Red Cross Blood Mobile.
Velma loved her hometown of Carthage and while living in Springfield she missed her many friends and attending church at First Baptist. She was very proud of her family and being with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Survivors include her son, Kenneth C. Bowman, Jr., wife, Jan, Springfield, Mo.; three grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and her brother-in-law, Colonel Stutzman, Carthage. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Kenneth, one sister, Elberta Stutzman and one brother, Lloyd Nunns.
Visitation will be held from 10–11 a.m. Friday, July 27 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage, followed by her funeral service at 11 a.m. Dr. S. Ray Crews will officiate. Interment will be in Park Cemetery, Carthage. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First Baptist Church, Carthage or the Carthage R-9 Foundation.
