  • Jensen sets new record at Tri-State swim meet

  • The Carthage Aquatic Team traveled to Siloam Springs, Ark. last weekend to compete in the Tri-State Swim Conference Invitational, hosted by the Siloam Springs Flyers.
    Nearly 350 athletes from 10 Tri-State swim teams competed in the two-day invitational, which saw 12-year-old Seth Jensen set a new Tri-State record of 32.74 in the 50-yard breaststroke. Jensen’s time broke a 9-year-old record of 32.89 set by Lamar’s Mitch Moore in 2003.
    Katie Mansfield earned the C Division Individual High Point for 13-14 girls, while Jensen earned the A Division Individual High Point for 11-12 boys.
    Carthage Aquatic Team members improved their times in 55 percent of their splashes in 49 events and achieved an “A” time in 18 percent of their splashes.
    The team competed in a two-day invitational in Monett this weekend.
    Boys results
    Will Mansfield finished fifth in the 15-18 200-yard freestyle C Division with a time of 2:25.63. Addison Burr followed in ninth with a time of 2:36.48. Ben Nichols took seventh in the 8-under 25-yard freestyle with a time of 28.24. Joe Nicholas finished sixth in the 10-under 50-yard freestyle, posting a time of 45.30.
    Seth Jensen finished the 11-12 50-yard freestyle in 30.39 to take first in the A Division, while William Prince finished ninth in 32.70. Ben Nicholas took 10th in the 8-under 25-yard backstroke, finishing in 38.33. Seth Jensen won the A Division of the 11-12 50-yard backstroke with a time of 31.70. William Prince followed in fourth. Seth Jensen won the A Division of the 11-12 100-yard IM with a time of 1:08.44. Prince won the C Division in 1:28.69.
    Addison Burr took third in the 15-18 200-yard IM, finishing in 2:54.05. Ben Nicholas finished seventh in the 8-under 25-yard butterfly with a time of 35.58.  Seth Jensen took first in the 11-12 50-yard butterfly A Division with a time of 30.54. Ben Nicholas finished in 1:07.08 to claim 10th in the 8-under 50-yard freestyle. Seth Jensen won the A Division of the 11-12 100-yard freestyle, finishing in 59.32.  Jensen also won the A Division of the 11-12 50-yard breaststroke with a time of 32.74.
    Girls results
    Lydia Youngworth finished the 15-18 200-yard freestyle in 2:47.00 to earn sixth in the event. Katie Mansfield claimed fifth in the 13-14 50-yard freestyle, finishing in 30.39, while Aurelia Burr followed in seventh. Lydia Youngworth took fifth in the 15-18 50-yard freestyle with a time of 32.35.
    Katie Mansfield finished fourth in the C Division of the 13-14 50-yard backstroke, finishing in 41.05. Aurelia Burr earned ninth in the event. Lydia Youngworth picked up sixth in the A Division of the 15-18 50-yard backstroke with a time of 37.43. Katie Mansfield finished in 2:56.04 to claim third in the 13-14 200-yard IM.
    Shelby Hatcher finished the 13-14 50-yard butterfly in 34.26 to earn fourth. Katie Mansfield won the event in the C Division, finishing in 35.78, while Aurelia Burr took ninth. Shelby Hatcher earned fourth in the 13-14 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 1:05.92. Katie Mansfield won the C Division in 1:10.00. Shelby Hatcher earned third in the 13-14 50-yard breaststroke, finishing in 39.23. Katie Mansfield took third in the D Division, and Aurelia Burr finished ninth.
