  • Emma “Lois” Thompson, 90, Carthage, Mo., passed away July 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage.

  • Emma “Lois” Thompson, 90, Carthage, Mo., passed away July 11, 2012 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center, Carthage. Lois was born on April 27, 1922 in Carroll County, Miss., to John and Elma Wallace and was the eldest of eight grandchildren.

    She was the loving wife of Rev. Howard L. “Tommy” Thompson for 68 years and a member of the First United Methodist Church, Carthage. Lois was an invaluable asset, in spirit, support and labor, to her husband, his ministry and to the churches they served. She was a member of The United Methodist Women and the PEO AP Chapter, an organization dedicated to promoting educational opportunities for women and actively participated in these for many years.

    She is survived by her husband, Tommy, of Carthage, four children; Sue Miller of Florida, Barbara DaRe of Oregon, Shirley Bowman of Greenwood, Mo., and Greg Thompson of Carthage; two sisters, Elaine Cade of Mississippi and Ruby Land of Georgia; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and a host of extended family and friends.

    A memorial service in celebration of Lois’s life will be held at the First United Methodist Church, 617 S. Main, Carthage, Mo., on Friday, July 13 at 11 a.m. Rev. James Lee will officiate. Memorial gifts are suggested to the First United Methodist Church, Carthage. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo.
