AUGUSTA, Ga. - Rev. Charles Michael, 70, passed away peacefully at his home on July 11, 2012.
He is survived by his wife, Linda Swarens Michael, daughter- Kathy Michael, Misawa Japan, sons: Scott/Shirley Michael, Warrenville, SC Daniel/ Nancy Michael, Charleston, SC, 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Rev. Michael was born in Carthage, MO., the youngest of 7 children born to A.W & Lola Michael. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, A.W. Jr and Lawrence Michael. After completing his education, he served as a deputy with the Jasper County Missouri Juvenile Court 1963- 1969, Superintendent of Big Brothers Children Home Joplin, MO 1969-1977. During this time he also served as music minister to several churches in the Spring River Baptist Association. He moved to Augusta GA to become Executive Director of the Augusta Rescue Mission 1977-1996, also pastored several churches in the Augusta Baptist Association. He became Pastor of First American Baptist Church in 1985, where he served until his retirement in 2008. Rev. Michael was Past- President of the Rangeline Lions Club Joplin MO, Chaplin of the Civitan Club of Augusta, GA. He loved to hunt with his brothers and nephews and fly small planes out of Daniel Field in Augusta.
His Carthage family is: sisters, Virginia Howard and Loretta Lavon Page; brother, Harold Michael. Also surviving is his brother Boyd Michael, of Fort Myers, Fla.
Special thanks to Trinity Hospice, especially Renee, Nicole, Janice, Tom and Wink for their tender care in his final days. Always thinking of what he could do for others, Rev Michael asked that his body be donated to MCG for medical research. Celebration of his life will be held at Central Baptist Church on Saturday July 21st at 11 am. Rev. Daniel Collins officiating. In lieu of flowers the family request that memorial be made to Central Baptist Church, 3006 Richmond Hill Rd., Augusta, Ga 30906 or a charity of your choice.
