Helen I. “Jean” Yates, age 75, Joplin, passed away at 7:53 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at her residence.
Jean was born June 29, 1936 in Racine, Mo., to the late Elbert Searcy and Helen Sarten Searcy and had lived in the Joplin area most of her life.
She worked in the food service department for the Carthage School District for several years before she retired. She had also worked a short time for Ramsey’s in Grove. She was a homemaker and a faithful member of Duenweg Assembly of God.
She married Chester R. Yates on April 8, 1961 in Miami, Okla. He survives at the home.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Sandra Dickey, Carthage; three sons, Dennis R. Yates, Leeville, La., Robert L. Yates, Joplin, Scott E. Yates, Joplin; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Lavon; a sister, Beverly A. Siske; and two brothers, Bobby K. Carter and Billy R. Carter.
Services will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Duenweg Assembly of God. Rev. Bill Hobson will officiate. Interment will follow at Park Cemetery, Carthage. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Monday at the church.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Duenweg Assembly of God or to the Joplin Shrine Club Travel Fund, both in care of Parker Mortuary.
