  • James Robert Hickam, Grove, Okla, formerly of Joplin, Mo., passed away June 30, 2012.
    James (Jim) was born to George and Vera Hickam in Webb City, Mo.  He attended Webb City High School and graduated in 1949.  He married Mary Sue French of Carthage, Mo. in 1950 and enjoyed 61 years of marriage.
    Jim and Mary Sue had four daughters:  Cheryl Smith of Joplin, Mo.; Tina Howard and husband Andy of Houston, Texas; Marcia Hickam Switzer of Grove, Okla.; and Susan Manard and husband Kevin of Joplin.
    Additional survivors include: sister Kathleen Connor of Greenville, SC; 4 grandchildren Jason Lieberman of Joplin; Elizabeth and John Manard of Joplin; and Christopher Switzer of Plano, Texas; 2 great grandchildren Justin and Payton Lieberman-Davis of Carthage, Mo.
    Preceding Jim in death were brothers Ben and Richard Hickam and grandson Chad Lieberman.
    Jim started his career as a salesman for McPike Drug Co.  He owned and operated Royal Fire Inc from 1960 to 1987.
    Jim enjoyed boating, fishing and going to antique auctions and being with his family and friends.
    A Celebration of Life is to be held at St. Andrews Episcopal Church in Grove, Okla., Thursday, July 5, 2012 at 11 p.m.  The family requests that memorial contributions be made in lieu of flowers to Good Shepherd Hospice of Grove, 2084 S. Main Street, Grove, Okla. 74344.
