Dalton Dyer was in top form on the mound and the Carthage Merchants rolled to a 7-2 victory Thursday night in an American Legion AAA baseball road game at McDonald County.
Dyer pitched all seven innings, allowing a run in the first and seventh innings.
“They only had two hits to the outfield,” Carthage head coach Jason McVey said. “He had a little problem with the mound the other day at Webb City, but at Mac County he started everybody with a strike. He struck out the side in the fourth inning. He was very in command all night and he got ahead of a lot of hitters.”
Carthage scored two runs in each of the first, second and third innings before adding another run in the fifth.
Keaton Giett doubled for Carthage, while Miles Goade went 4-for-4 at the plate and Sawyer Shepherd went 3-for-4.
“Keaton made two extraordinary plays at short stop,” McVey said. “He backhanded one in deep short and threw the runner out, and he dove up the middle to catch a line drive, both in the sixth inning.”
Carthage will play an unscheduled game at Nixa Monday night. The Merchants will host Monett in a district game at 6 p.m. on Monday, July 9. The team may play a game against Nevada the following Tuesday.
