Herbert Lee Stocking passed away at the home of his daughter Lorrie on June 26, 2012 after a lengthy illness.
Herb was born in Mayfield, Kan., and attended Pittsburg State University and later Stanford University.
Herb was a Marine in World War II and later was recalled as reservist during the Korean Conflict. Herb was a teacher and school administrator for over 20 years and later was the road superintendent for the City of Carterville, Mo. for over 20 years. He will be remembered for his hard working nature, kind heart and love for his family. His sister Mary Metcalf of Colorado Springs, Colo., Son Brad Stocking and wife Debbie of Reno, Nev., Daughter Lorrie of Carthage, Mo., son Scott Stocking and wife Robbyn of Irvington, Ill. survive him.
His Grandchildren Rachel Stocking of Long Beach, Calif., Matthew Stocking and wife Sara of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., Chelsea Gibson of Springfield, Mo. and Kate Stocking of Irvington, Ill. He has one Great-grandchild Mason Scott Stocking of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif. Wife Marjorie, Son in law Carl Gibson, eight Siblings and grand daughter Ellyn Lynn Ann Stocking preceded him in death. We will all remember his kind heart, compassion and love for his kids and especially his grandkids. His hard work and genuine care for the schools, towns and people he worked for and with shall always be an inspiration.
Friends are invited to attend a graveside memorial service at 10 a.m. Thursday, June 28, 2012 at Ozark Memorial Park, under the direction of Parker Mortuary. Memorial contributions may be made in Herb’s memory to the Mercy Hospice Program, in care of the mortuary.
