Billy Wayne Jones, 82, Joplin, passed away June 10, 2012 in Miami, Okla., following an extended illness.
Billy was born Dec. 16, 1929 in Dade County, Mo., to the late Ross J. and Jewell (White) Jones. He moved with his parents to Carthage as a young boy, and grew up there, and graduated from Carthage High School. He went to work for the Hercules Corp. at 17 years of age as a cook. He eventually was manager of the cafeteria there until he retired several years ago. It was the only full time job he ever had, and he was a loyal and faithful employee.
He married Louise Jones at Miami, Okla. They made their home in Carthage until her passing in October 1986.
Billy had many interests. He especially enjoyed being outdoors when hunting and fishing. He also liked to attend auctions and estate sales, and he also enjoyed shooting pool.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Jones, and by a sister, Louise Smith.
He is survived by his children, Tammy French, Siloam Springs, Ark., Marcia Pringle, Corpus Christi, Texas, Emma Barnett of Eldorado, Kan., and John Stroud of Wilhelmsdorf, Germany; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends who will miss him very much.
Services for Billy Wayne Jones will be 2 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 graveside at Park Cemetery, Carthage, Mo. Services are under direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary, Carthage, Mo.
