  • Justin Baucom, Republican candidate for Jasper County Treasurer, held a press conference Monday at the Jasper County Courthouse, Carthage, to officially kickoff his political campaign for the office.
“We need qualified, well educated individuals with leadership experience to get involved in our local government,” Baucom said.
Baucom was elected to the Carthage R9 School Board, also serves on the Carthage Public Library Board, Carthage Tree Board, Jasper County Association for Social Services Board, and Rotary Club. He currently serves as Treasurer on the School Board and Library Board.
“I became interested in local government while in college and pursued a bachelor's degree in Public Administration from MSU,” Baucom said. “I understand the public budgeting process and the importance of running an office that is accountable to the community.”
Baucom also received a law degree from the University of Oklahoma.
Baucom said his legal education and experience as an attorney will translate well into being a county official.
“As an attorney you are taught to develop effective communication skills and use logic and critical thinking to interpret complex information, such as state statutes and regulations that may pertain to local government.”
His private practice deals mostly with estate planning, wills and trusts.
“As a grant writer for the Lafayette House, I became familiar with the social services network within Jasper County and the various grant programs and funds that are funneled through the county,” Baucom said.
