  • Burel Cones, 90, of Carthage passed away Sunday, June 3 in the Carthage Health and Rehab Center. 

    Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Snapp-Bearden Funeral Home, Branson.

    Burel was born on March 21, 1922 in Lamar, Mo. He was the son of E. F. Cones and Clara (Rodden) Cones. He was a graduate of Carthage High School and then went on to serve our country in both World War II and Korea.  Burel owned and operated Burel’s Barber Shop in Carthage and was a city councilman in Carthage.  He attended the Christian Church, belonged to the Lion’s Club and loved bowling.  Burel also lived on the lake in Golden, Mo., for 23 years and moved back to Carthage in 1997.

    Burel married his loving wife, Norma in 1972 in Miami, Okla.

    Burel was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, W.F. Cones; and one daughter, Tracy Fullerton.

    Burel is survived by his wife, Norma Cones of Carthage; his daughter, Lynne Mitchell of Springfield; step-daughter, Rhonda Gideon and husband Jerry; his brother, R.E. Cones of Independence; four granddaughters and nine great-grandkids.
