  • Another Uprising is coming.

For the second time, Bryan Smith is organizing an Uprising event that will take place in Carthage. The event, which has been inspired as a huge fundraiser for local charities and non-profits, will have three live bands, a DJ, illusionist, special guest J.D. Buckridge and BMX demonstrations. This year, Uprising 2012 will give all the proceeds to Children's Haven (Joplin).

“It's a benefit to raise awareness of the needs in our area, support the local youth and it gives something else to do in the area,” said Smith. “I just felt like the Lord was leading me to do it … It's pretty cool to see an idea come alive, have the community's support and just take it to the next level.”

A host of local churches have already shown support for the Uprising movement. Last year the event attracted about 250 people, and raised $2,500.

Jud Heald, will bring his untitled skateboarding skills the Carthage Memorial Hall and will be demonstrating from 6-7 p.m. Saturday, April 28. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the concert will begin at 7 p.m. Featured bands will be Consumed by Fire, Offset Sunset and Duncan James. The event will also have DJ Justin Ocean (Dubstep) and illusionist Cody Lowery. Admission is $5, plus an unwrapped toy.

Uprising 2012 is sponsored by Take a Stand. For more information, call Bryan Smith at 417-674-0138.
