The Salvation Army is announcing the Second Annual Fighting Hunger Drive.
Now through June 1 we are asking Carthage area organizations and school groups to participate in our campaign to fight hunger right here in our community.
“We are asking groups to collect items such as Styrofoam cups, bowls, and plates, plastic silverware, paper towels, bleach, and much more. These items are used year-round for our Daily Community Lunch Program and critically needed in order to serve hundreds of hungry individuals and families each week,” stated Lt. Julie Trapp, Corps Officer of The Salvation Army. “During the last fiscal year ending Sept. 30, 2011 we served 16,685 individuals, and, unfortunately, that number continues to increase this year.”
Items can be dropped off at The Salvation Army located at 125 E. Fairview St. any time from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday and Friday May 30 and June 1. To sign up your group or for more information, please call 358-2262.
“The Salvation Army’s commitment is to Doing the Most Good for the Carthage community,” Trapp said. “With your support we will be able to reach out in meaningful ways to the less fortunate.”
