What once started as a small school fundraiser has flourished into a highly-anticipated community event.

What once started as a small school fundraiser has flourished into a highly-anticipated community event.

Doors will open for the St. Ann's Charity Auction Event at 6 p.m. Saturday, April 14. As an adult-only event, those attending this year's auction will not be found wanting in unique and high-quality items. The community is invited to step “Through the Garden Gate,” to enjoy heavy hor d'oeuvres, wine and beer (cash bar) Keltoi wine tasting, and both live and silent auctions to benefit the St. Ann's School and Parish.

“It's so much fun bidding on items in the silent auction, because you can try to beat your friends,” said Heidi Gilligan, one of the organizers for the event. “There's something for everybody.”

Among the many items up for auction are trips to Seagrove Beach, Fla., Doral in Miami, Fla., and Red Lodge, near Yellowstone National Park in Montana. There will also be artwork by Andy Thomas, Larry Glaze, April Davis, Tricia Courtney, Brett Skinner and Debbie Reed. A 46-inch flat screen television, a Dell laptop, an Ipad2, jewelry, furniture, a golf bag, are just some of the other items available to the highest bidder. The auctioneer for the event will be Danny Hensley.

“I'm so excited to have this event back,” said St. Ann's School Principal Bonnie Schaeffer. “It's a great time to fellowship.”

The Knights of Columbus, the PCCW women's group and the St. Ann's School join forces to make this event possible to benefit the 76 students who attend the school and the St. Ann's Parish.

“It's a great, fun atmosphere for what we all feel is a worthy cause,” said Chris Kennedy, organizer for the event. “The school is non-denominational, our school's doors are open to anyone of any faith.”

The event will be located at 1156 Grand Ave., Carthage. Tickets are $25 a person. The public is welcome, but must be 21 years old to attend.
