  • Missouri voters will head to the polls today to express their preference for who to run for president in November.
Missouri’s Republican ballot will be missing one big name and will include a number of candidates that have already dropped out.
“Newt Gingrich decided not to file for the Missouri Primary,” said Ryan Hobart, spokesman for the Secretary of State’s office. “All that’s required to run is to fill out an intent to run and pay a $1,000 filing fee to the state party for which you want to run.”
Hobart said the ballot will include candidates, such as Jon Huntsman, Herman Cain and Michelle Bachmann, who have dropped out because the ballot was printed more than two months ago.
Candidates running for the Republican nod for president will be Gary Johnson, Herman Cain, Mitt Romney, Michael J. Meehan, Rick Perry, Keith Drummond, Jon Huntsman, Michele Bachmann, Rick Santorum, Ron Paul and Uncommitted.
The Democratic slate includes Barack Obama, Randall Terry, Darcy G. Richardson, John Wolfe and Uncommitted.
The Libertarian Party slate includes James Orland, Ogle III and Uncommitted.
Hobart said the Republican primary will not actually decide who gets how many delegates to the Republican convention.
The Republican Party will hold a caucus in March to decide who gets which delegates.
Polling places are in their normal locations in Carthage. Polls open at 6 a.m. and will remain open until 7 p.m.
Wards 1 and 2 will vote at Memorial Hall, Ward 3 will vote at the First Christian Church Lighthouse, Ward 4 will vote at the Carthage Church of the Nazarene and Ward 5 will vote at the Fairview Christian Church.
