  • With the help of local generosity, the Carthage Area United Way reached beyond the goal for 2011.
Jenny Mansfield, executive director for the United Way since 2008, announced the 2011 campaign raised $320,927, surpassing the $300,000 goal, during the annual meeting and awards banquet Thursday afternoon.
“Since I've been executive director we haven't exceeded the goal,” Mansfield said. “I am thrilled.”
With 106 attending the event, local business representatives and volunteers received rounds of applause. The Spirit of Giving Award was received by representatives from all three branches of Schreiber Foods, who later presented a check of $77,742.16 to the United Way.
The 110% Award was given to Amanda Fosdick, representing Hometown Bank.
The 2011 service awards recognized 59 volunteers with Leggett & Platt, 44 volunteers with other companies, local schools, county and city, nine volunteers with the Citizen Review Team and 44 volunteers with the Day of Caring.
The 2012 United Way board of directors will be: Bev Baker, president; Jerry Poston, vice president; Steve Montague, secretary; Amy Campbell, treasurer; Bob Goar, campaign chairman. Other board members are: Tami Adams, Kelly Atkinson, Nate Dally, Dr. Greg Goetzinger, Eric Putnam, Denise Robertson, E. Wayne Wilson.
Darren Collier is retiring from the board this year.
“Where one ends the next one begins,” Mansfield said of the transition to the 2012 campaign.
