  • There was cheering, jumping and even head-banging as Carthage students rocked their lunch hour with Camryn.
An up-and-coming young pop rock singer, Camryn, stopped and performed at the Carthage Junior High School on Wednesday as part of her coast-to-coast tour. After performing in Coweta, Okla., this 12-year-old star visited Carthage to help develop a fan base and perform some of her music.
“I'm excited to be here,” she said before the first lunch hour on Wednesday. “I want to tell students to never stop believing in themselves and to go after their dreams.”
Three CJHS students were able to personally meet Camryn; Natalie Gilliam, Avery Alumbaugh and Emma Pound.
“I think it's an awesome experience to meet somebody who's been on the road and met celebrities,” said eighth grader Gilliam.
“I'm sure she'll make it big,” added Alumbaugh. “She's got that persona of rock.”
Camryn has become one of the most popular, young music acts with more than one million Facebook fans. This Denver, Colo., native first entered the music scene last year, when she appeared in Judy Moody and the NOT Bummer Summer and toured with Cody Simpson and Greyson Chance. Her debut single, "Wait & See" broke into top 40 radio and its video received heavy airplay on both Nickelodeon and The N.
“The great part about this tour is to be able to get affiliated with different schools and media,” said tour manager Jeff Pringle. “It's interesting to see how different kids react to the show … This daily routine allows (Camryn) to get up in the morning and go to work, then in the afternoon she'll go to school.”
While Camryn is on the road, she keeps up with her studies with a personal tutor. To keep a family-friendly atmosphere for the young star, Camryn's manager initiated the unique tour that visits schools across the nation.
"It's been a lot of fun interacting with the kids at all of the different schools," Camryn said. "The best part is that I can actually relate to them and they can relate to me since we're in the same age group."
