Liz Poe finished 10th in the 100-yard backstroke and the Carthage girls swimming team took 11th in the 400-yard free relay and 12th in the 200-yard free relay as the Tigers finished 14th out of 18 teams Saturday in the Ozarks Invitational.
“The girls did great,” Carthage head coach Brittiany Nixon said. “We are slowly getting everyone back in shape after being off for Christmas break. There was some good competition on Saturday with 18 teams including several from up north. Several girls dropped time and had their best times for the season.
“We look forward to a solid week of practice with a dual on Thursday and then our home invitational on Saturday,” Nixon said.
Glendale won the meet, held at Hickory Hills Middle School, with 349 points. Columbia Rock Bridge was second with 310, and MICDS took third with 272 points. Local schools included Joplin, who finished ninth with 92 points; Nevada, who finished 10th with 84 points; who took 12th with 74; and Lamar, who finished in 17th with eight total points.
Carthage finished with 35 points.
Sophomore Taylor Hart finished 25th in the 200-yard free, junior Abbie Kennedy finished 46th, junior Kate Siebert was 57th and sophomore Alyssa Rockers was 62nd. Amanda Arnold, a junior, took 25th in the 200-yard IM, freshman Lydia Youngworth was 33rd, junior Taylor Herbst was 45th and freshman Nicole Hitchcock was 47th. In the 50-yard free, junior M’Lynne Wagner was 24th, freshman Katie Watson was 29th, junior Karley Burris was 50th and sophomore Hannah Whitehead finished in 54th place.
Arnold was 18th in the 100-yard fly, while Hitchcock finished 33rd and senior Chantel Jones followed in 39th. Sophomore Brooklyne Coy took 22nd in the 100-yard free, sophomore Lacey Stephens finished 23rd, and Siebert took 46th. Hart led the Tigers with a 22nd-place finish in the 500-yard free, Watson followed closely in 23rd and Wagner finished 28th.
Poe took 10th in the 100-yard backstroke, Herbst was 46th and Whitehead finished 48th, while Coy took 20th in the 100-yard breaststroke, Youngworth took 35th, Kennedy finished 43rd and Burris finished 45th.
In relay events, Carthage finished 14th in the 200-yard medley, 12th in the 200-yard free, and 11th in the 400-yard free.
The Tigers will compete Thursday in the Springfield Quad, which begins at 4:30 p.m.
Carthage will host its invitational at 10 a.m. Saturday.
