Only one game separates the Webb City Cardinals from a trip back to the semifinal round of the MSHSAA playoffs.

Webb City, the Class 3 runner-up in 2008, entertains No. 1 Columbia Rock Bridge at 5 p.m. today in the quarterfinal at Barnes Field.

If the Cardinals (20-6) can continue their winning ways with a victory over Rock Bridge, they would advance to the state semifinal, which is set for  4 p.m. Friday, June 4, at Meador Park in Springfield.

In order to do so, the Cardinals, a 1-0 winner in eight innings Tuesday over Branson, must find away to knock off the No. 1 team in the state according to the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association.

Rock Bridge (24-2) slipped by Fort Zumwalt North, ranked second in the state, with a 3-2 victory.

Two days after junior left-hander Tyler Burgess threw  a two-hit shutout, Webb City coach Shawn Mayes has named Breckin Williams as the probable starter for today’s game.
