After qualifying 15 individuals at the Region C wrestling tournament in Nixa, the Carthage Youth Wrestling Club concluded an exhausting weekend at the 2010 Missouri State Youth Folkstyle tournament.

This year’s tournament, as always, showcased the best of the best from around the state, including Carthage’s individual qualifiers, competing for the ultimate prize — a state championship.

In all, five of Carthage’s 15 qualifiers brought home medals, while two wrestlers — Zeke Sappington and Seth Logan — captured first place in their respective weight classes.

Sappington, already a regional champion at 70 pounds, earned individual honors in the 8-and-under division. Logan, who also qualified for state as a regional champion, placed first at 115 pounds in the 12-and-under division.

Brycen Cartwright, competing at 95 pounds, narrowly missed out on capturing first place in the 10-and-under division, settling for second place.

Also in the 10-and-under division, Payton Novinger medaled after finishing sixth at 100 pounds. Blaine Perry, competing at 235 pounds in the 14-and-under division, finished sixth as well.
