Webb City, still celebrating its first girls’ basketball state championship in school history, recently had two players selected to the Class 4 All-State team, as chosen by the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association (MBCA).

Brad Shorter, who helped lead the Lady Cardinals to their first championship in only his second season at the helm, was named the Class 4 Richard Fairchild Coach of the Year.

Webb City, which suffered only one loss, breezed through the regular season and handedly beat Republic in the sectional before turning back St. James for the second time in as many years in the quarterfinal.

After coming up short in the finals last season, Webb City, after holding off Kansas City O’Hara in the semifinal, beat Notre Dame of Cape Girardeau for the Class 4 state championship.

Junior Kaitlin Jaeger, already the Central Ozark Conference Large Division Player of the Year, earned All-State honors, along with teammate Hailey Roderique, who turned in a sparkling performance in the finals against Notre Dame.

Roderique, also a junior, was a first-team all-conference selection this season.
