Mrs. Francis Eleen Smith, 92, of Sarcoxie, Mo., departed this life on Friday afternoon, March 26, 2010, at her home after several months of declining health. 


Mrs. Francis Eleen Smith, 92, of Sarcoxie, Mo., departed this life on Friday afternoon, March 26, 2010, at her home after several months of declining health. 

Eleen was born on July 3, 1917, in rural Sarcoxie, Mo., daughter of the late James Arthur and Ella Barbara (Boyce) Wyatt. She was a lifelong area resident and a 1934 graduate of Sarcoxie High School.  On Oct. 1, 1936, she was united in marriage to Kenneth Edgar Smith and to this union two daughters and one son were born. She and Kenneth owned and operated the Red Arrow Café and The Oaks Inn Café both located in Sarcoxie, Mo. She also worked at Juvenile Shoe and was the cafeteria supervisor for the Sarcoxie School District. She enjoyed golfing and cooking for her family. She was of the Methodist faith. 

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Kenneth Smith on June 11, 1992; a daughter, Barbara Williams; a grandson, Kevin Alan Smith; and five siblings.

Eleen is survived by her daughter, Donna Henry of Sarcoxie, Mo.; a son, Kenneth G. “Butch” Smith and wife, Jonie, of West Cliff, Colo.; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a son in-law, Nelson Williams of Joplin, Mo.; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends.

A memorial visitation will be held on Tuesday evening from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. in the Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home Chapel in Sarcoxie, Mo.
