The Carthage High School tennis team pulled out a close victory on Friday over Ozark, 5-4 in the Tigers second match of the season.

In singles results, Carthage’s Jordan Ward defeated Ozark’s Christian Dyer 8-2; Carthage’s Tim Dannels defeated Ozark’s Zach Deckard 8-0; Carthage’s Ryne Caughlin beat Chris Thomas in a tie-breaker, 9-8 (7-3); the Tigers’ Reggie Lashley lost to Chandler Mercer 8-5; The Tigers’ Justus Stevenson lost to Ozark’s Andrew York 8-5; and Carthage’s Josh Patton lost to Dylan Knuckolls 8-4.

In doubles competition, the Carthage team of Ward and Caughlin defeated Ozark’s Dyer and Thomas 8-2; Carthage’s Dannels and Lashley beat Ozark’s Deckard and Mercer and Carthage’s Stevenson and Jon Batchelor lost to York and Knuckolls 8-4.

Carthage next takes the tennis court at 4:30 p.m. Monday versus Republic.
