Storms that brought wide-spread rains to Southwest Missouri forced the cancellation of all Carthage High School sporting events on Thursday.

Carthage High School Girls Soccer Coach Chris Rogers said the sun was out when his team’s home opener against Carl Junction was scheduled to start but two inches of water was standing on the Fair Acres soccer field, making it impossible to play.

The other casualties on Thursday were a CHS home tennis match with Ozark; the Joplin relays at Junge Field, which were supposed to feature the CHS track and field teams and CHS golf versus Joplin and Webb City at the Briarbrook Country Club in Carl Junction.

On the docket for Friday are a 4:30 p.m. Tiger home baseball game versus Carl Junction; Tiger soccer on the road at Springfield Parkview at 5 p.m.; the tennis team’s makeup match against Ozark; and a Jasper baseball double-header at home versus Lamar starting at 4:30.

Carthage Activities Director Andy Youngworth said the relays in Joplin will likely not be rescheduled and his team will head to McDonald County today for a meet. The soccer game versus Parkview will be made up on April 5.

Jasper Baseball Coach Dustin Young said Jasper’s field is soaked and a decision will be made at 2:30 p.m. as to whether the double-header can be played.
