The candidates for Jasper R-5 Board of Education will get the chance to sell themselves to the public at a candidate forum on Monday.

The Jasper Community Teacher’s Association, along with the civics classes from Jasper High School, will host a forum for candidates of Jasper’s Board of Education at 7 p.m. Monday, March 29 at in Tabler Gymnasium.

JCTA Vice President Tom Jones will moderate the forum.

The JCTA, Jones said, is “basically inviting the public to a public forum to introduce the candidates running for offices of the school board members.”

The candidates are incumbent Tim Atnip and Danny Baker, Carolyn Corle and Joe Heger. Incumbent Henry Leaming did not file for reelection. The top two vote-getters will take the two seats that are available.

The forum will be split into three parts. In the first, candidates will answer a set number of questions they’ve been informed of ahead of time.

The second section is an informal question and answer period, in which the candidates take informal questions from students, parents, teachers and community members.

In the final part, the candidates will speak freely, giving them a chance to express their vision of the district to the voters.

Jones said the JCTA is seeking questions to ask the candidates during the first portion, and welcomes the public to get involved and email suggestions to hmetcal@jasper.k12.mo.us.
