The Carthage Lady Tigers soccer team battled Logan-Rogersville to a scoreless tie in its entire season opening match on Monday but lost on penalty kicks to start the season 0-1.

Chris Rogers, Lady Tigers soccer head coach, said his team battled and goal keeper Phylicia Lewis and the defense played well to keep Carthage in the game, but his team also showed a little rust.

“Our defense played really well, but after the weather the last couple of days we just haven’t been able to get out and play,” Rogers said. “We were a little rusty, but our defense and our goalie made some great saves to keep it at 0-0.”

Rogers said Logan-Rogersville scored on two of its penalty kicks after the clock ran out while Carthage was unable to convert on any of its free chances.

Defense was also a key in the junior varsity matchup, but Carthage came up short there as well, losing to the home team 1-0.

The 2010 Lady Tigers make their home debut at 5 p.m. on Thursday as they match up with Carl Junction at the Fair Acres Sports Complex soccer field.
